“I was honored to be the first We Care Ambassador duo alongside Josh Watson. My favorite We Care event was Casino Night! I was proud to represent children with disabilities and our love for Easter Seals summer camp. I attended camp from age 3 to 18, and it is some of the best memories of my life! It was such a relief to know that everything at camp was wheelchair-accessible: smooth pathways, ramps, and activities where every kid could participate. It was a needed break from navigating the able-bodied world. Easter Seals camp taught me about my abilities away from my parents. It increased my self-esteem and self-confidence. I still maintain some of my summer camp friendships to this day.”
– Lisa Wilson, We Care Ambassador 1990-1992
We Care has two ambassadors representing the many kids with disabilities we help send to Easter Seals summer camps. Each ambassador serves a 2-year term and attends We Care events to share their camp experiences with attendees and to say thanks. They meet and talk to our supporters, who get to hear firsthand how their contributions positively change lives. The Ambassador program not only gives We Care supporters insights into the lives of kids with disabilities, it also develops self-confidence and public speaking skills in the young individuals selected.
Our ambassadors are also eligible for the Bruce D. Curtis We Care Scholarship, which provides financial aid for post-secondary school expenses. Go to our Scholarships page to apply.
The Ambassador program is open to all kids with disabilities. Contact us to apply.
